I’m conflicted about this one…
Ken Procyk’s father was given a stuffed moose head in 1985. Named, Bob, the moose head bounced around the family for a couple of decades, adorning summer homes and garages. When Ken inherited it, he had no room for it, and sold it on eBay, hoping to find others that would appreciate it. It was purchased by a restaurant in St. Louis, MO. Ken went to a lot of trouble filing the appropriate forms and packaging it for shipping. It made it as far as Buffalo, NY, where it was seized by U.S. Customs. Turns out it qualifies as an illegal pelt of an endangered species. Ken faces fines and the Bob will probably never be recovered.
Now, I’m all for laws that encourage people not to hunt and trade endangered species. However, in this case, the moose was long dead and selling the head would likely not encourage further moose hunting. Any thoughts?
